Far Cry 6 Co Op How Many Players Complete Multiplayer Guide

22 September 2026 | 215

Far Cry 6 offers players an expansive open world on the island of Yara, filled with tactical combat and guerrilla warfare. Navigating this vast territory is often more engaging when taking on missions alongside a partner. Understanding how multiplayer works, including player limits and unlocking requirements, ensures a smooth cooperative experience.

Player Count and Co Op Capacity

Far Cry 6 supports online cooperative play for up to two players simultaneously. The entire main story campaign and side activities can be played together with one partner. There is no option for local split-screen or larger four-player squads in the main campaign.

Unlocking Cooperative Mode

Cooperative play is not available from the moment you start the game. Players must complete the introductory storyline missions on Isla Santuario up through the mission titled Du or Die. Once this milestone is reached, the multiplayer feature becomes accessible directly from the main menu.

How Progression Works for Both Players

Campaign progress is saved strictly for the host player hosting the session. However, guest players retain all inventory items, currency, gear, and experience earned during the session. This allows visiting players to strengthen their character while helping a friend advance their narrative.

Special Operations and Matchmaking Options

In addition to campaign co-op, players can participate in dedicated Special Operations given by Lola at guerrilla camps. Players can choose to matchmake with friends or utilize public matchmaking to find random partners. Cross-generation play is supported across compatible console families, though cross-platform play between different systems is unavailable.
